Computing and Research Facilities

The UCI libraries include the Langson Library for Social & Behavior Sciences, Humanities, Arts, & Business; the Science Library for the Life, Physical, Information, Environmental & Health Sciences and Engineering/Technology and the Grunigen Library for Medicine and Allied Health at the UCIMC Campus in Orange. Collectively these libraries hold more than 2.7 million volumes and provide access to approximately 47,000 print and online journals and scholarly resources. The Libraries also maintain a collection of 2.3 million microforms -- as well as more than 114,000 cartographic and graphic materials, computer files, audio recordings, films, and videos to support study, teaching and research. Students have borrowing privileges at the libraries of the nine other University of California campuses. All resources in the collections of all ten UC campuses are catalogued and noted in the UC online public access catalog, MELVYL. This coordinated access also facilitates Inter-Library Loan so that the UCI community may request library materials, including periodical articles from other holding campuses or libraries within UC or throughout the world. Each campus also maintains its own local online catalog, and at UCI, ANTPAC provides access to a growing number of licensed Web-based bibliographic and full-text resources (including electronic journals, e-books, reference works, government information, datasets and other useful subject resources). The UCI collection is quickly expanding to have a very significant digital presence. At UCI, graduate students and faculty enjoy a special document delivery service and can request print materials from the Library to be delivered to their offices. Each academic department has a Liaison Librarian to support the academic mission of instruction, information literacy and collections and to work with students and faculty. The UCI Libraries provide a range of services to the campus, including extended hours, access to over a thousand computers, classes & workshops on information seeking & evaluation, bibliographic management software, and subject-based content.
